About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic team in a challenging but rewarding role within Adult Community Corrections.

The duties are varied and involve case managing offenders, writing reports for sentencing and releasing authorities, and working alongside other stakeholders in the community for effective outcomes. As a Community Corrections Officer (CCO) you will report to the Team Leader and operate as part of the Region or Centre case management team. You will be responsible for case managing offenders and defendants (in accordance with Orders and appropriate standards)

Eligibility to Apply 

To apply to be a Community Corrections Officer, you will need:

• Australian citizenship or permanent residency; or New Zealand citizenship.

• Receive clearance through a National Criminal History check and the Department’s Integrity Assessment.
• Successful completion of all relevant pre-employment assessments. This may include psychological testing.

• A current unrestricted C or C-A class drivers’ licence.

• And any other selection assessments as determined by the Department.

How to Apply

For those that are in current Community Corrections Officer pools, those pools remain active as per advertising, however, you may still want to consider applying for the new pool. Should any changes occur to the current pools, people will be informed.

Please ensure you review the attached Job Description Form (JDF), and Applicant Information Booklet, and it is recommended that you attend an information session. This information will assist you with the preparation of your application.

We require you to submit:

• A current and comprehensive CV/Resume including the contact details of two referees, with one being your current direct line supervisor or Manager.
• During the online application process, you will be asked to respond to the three online application questions outlined below, in no more than 250 words each, regarding your skills, knowledge and abilities for the Community Corrections Officer position.

1) Describe your experience, skills, or transferable capabilities relevant to working with individuals who have complex needs. Provide a specific example where you assessed needs and risks, planned and coordinated support, monitored progress, and achieved a positive outcome. Examples may be drawn from employment, study, placement, volunteer work, or other relevant experiences.

2) Provide an example of a time you worked collaboratively with colleagues, partner agencies, or external stakeholders to support a client or achieve a shared outcome. Describe your role, the challenges involved, how you communicated and built relationships, and the result achieved.

3) Community Corrections Officers work with a diverse range of clients, including Aboriginal people who are significantly over-represented in the criminal justice system. Explain your understanding of the historical, systemic and socio-economic factors that contribute to this over-representation.

Pool Recruitment

This pool will be open for a period of twenty-four months from the day after the review period closes. Permanent, fixed term, full time and part time appointments may be offered as vacancies arise.

The Department of Justice uses recruitment pools to build a bank of talent for future opportunities. When part of a pool you may be offered a permanent or temporary position, however an appointment is not guaranteed. Applicants found suitable in this pool, may be considered for subsequent, similar vacancies at similar locations, with the Department of Justice for the duration of the pool.
