A strong system advocate with a passion for improving the wellbeing of children and young people is sought for the position of Commissioner for Children and Young People
The Commissioner for Children and Young People is an independent statutory office established under the Commissioner for Children and Young People Act 2006 (the Act) to advocate for all Western Australian children and young people under the age of 18.
The Commissioner reports directly to the Western Australian Parliament with oversight of their work undertaken by a Joint Standing Committee. The Commissioner is also required to maintain a working relationship with the Attorney General as the Minister responsible for administration of the Act.
As Commissioner, you will be responsible for improving the wellbeing of children and young people, giving priority to the interests and needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people, the vulnerable and the disadvantaged. You will advocate for the participation of children and young people in decisions which concern them, turning the spotlight on issues such as education, youth justice, child protection and health and mental health.
To be successful in this position you will have a proven ability to inspire a sense of purpose throughout the Office of the Commissioner for Children and Young People. With an ability to analyse complex issues objectively, considering the current and future role of the Office in providing products and services to the community and delivering policy objectives on behalf of Government.
This is a fixed term position for up to 5 years with a competitive remuneration package, including a salary of $299,118, a motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance, plus superannuation.
