The Opportunity
Delivering one of the Metropolitan Cemeteries Board’s (MCB) core services, you will join the Operations Team, as a Cemetery Worker - Burials in a critical role that supports families during one of life’s most difficult moments. Every service you deliver reflects dignity, respect and care.
This hands-on role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, operating machinery, performing physical work, and being part of a team. Reporting to the Team Leader (Burials), you will be responsible for preparing and maintaining burial sites to ensure funeral services are conducted safely, efficiently and with dignity. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to;
- Identify grave locations in accordance with burial plans.
- Prepare gravesites for funeral services using manual methods (hand tools) and machinery (such as excavator, skid steer and/or tractors).
- Undertake exhumations and prepare graves for multiple interments, lift and deepen existing graves.
- Operate and maintain all plant, tools and equipment, load and transport vehicles safely in accordance with procedures.
- Assist other teams with other operational activities such as cremations, garden/grounds maintenance and other operational activities.
There are currently two [2] permanent and one (1) fixed term (12 months) position available for immediate filling. A recruitment pool will be established from this process. Applicants assessed as suitable may be considered for future permanent or fixed‑term opportunities in this or similar roles for a period of twelve (12) months. Successful applicants placed in the pool may be offered positions across all sites including; Pinnaroo Valley Memorial Park, Fremantle Cemetery, Rockingham Regional Memorial Park, and Karrakatta Cemetery.
Training is provided; previous industry experience is not essential. What matters most is your attitude, willingness to learn and commitment to high standards.
About You
As the successful candidate, you will demonstrate the following;
- Experience in performing physically demanding work.
- Knowledge of operating and maintaining machinery in an outdoor environment.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds.
- A strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
- A basic level of computer literacy in Microsoft Word and Internet use.
