About The Role:

The Assistant Director Ministerial and Parliamentary Services is responsible for strategic leadership of ministerial, parliamentary, and Cabinet matters across the Department of Housing and Works (DHW). This position leads the Ministerial and Parliamentary Services team, the central point of contact for all Ministerial requests between DHW and the Office of the Minister for Housing and Works. The MLU manages and coordinates ministerial correspondence, parliamentary requests and Cabinet matters in accordance with established protocols, quality standards and timelines.

This position is responsible for the management of DHW’s strategic issues, working closely with the Director General and Executive Leadership Group to manage and rectify high risk issues and identify and capitalise on strategic opportunities.

This leadership role will establish and maintain strong working relationships with Ministerial stakeholders and customers, and build a culture of innovation and collaboration, and support the delivery of high-quality services.

About You:

You are a strategic and collaborative leader with extensive experience managing ministerial, parliamentary and Cabinet processes within a complex public sector environment. You bring strong political acumen, sound judgement and highly developed conceptual and analytical skills, enabling you to anticipate emerging issues, navigate sensitive matters and provide strategic advice in a dynamic environment.

An excellent communicator and relationship builder, you establish trusted partnerships with senior executives, ministerial offices and stakeholders, providing clear, practical and timely advice on complex issues. You bring strong analytical and critical thinking skills, enabling you to anticipate emerging issues, identify risks and opportunities, and develop effective solutions. Your ability to lead through complexity, influence outcomes and promote effective governance and responsive service delivery makes you well suited to this role.

You are an effective people leader who fosters a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement, while developing the capability of your team to achieve positive outcomes.

This position operates in the context of Leading Others. This means that you will motivate and enable others to deliver high quality work. You will balance time between doing the work and coaching, guiding and developing others. This requires a significant shift in thinking from ‘doing’ to supporting others to ‘do good work’; and consideration of present and future needs when allocating time to the team and projects you lead. You will articulate how work is to be done, providing clear direction and feedback.

How to Apply:

If you have what it takes to be part of our dynamic and forward-thinking team, submit the following in MS Word or PDF format only:

  1. A comprehensive CV that shows your skills, experiences and key achievements, including the contact details of two referees (with one being your current or most recent supervisor).
  1. Cover letter of three (3) pages or less, outlining how you meet all the essential requirements of the role and demonstrate leadership behaviours.

Please ensure you apply before the closing deadline as we won’t accept late and incomplete applications.
