About us
The Department of Treasury and Finance is at the centre of Government decision-making. As the principal economic and financial advisor, we provide leadership and strategic advice and influence to support the delivery of services and outcomes for the benefit of Western Australia.
What we do is integral to the Government’s decision-making processes about where and how to spend taxpayer’s money to ensure Western Australians have access to quality services on a financially sustainable basis.
We lead procurement and leverage our buying power to secure products and services for government, achieving value for money for WA.
We collect revenue to fund government services and administer payment of grants and subsidies to the WA community.
The work area
We are looking for innovative, proactive and collaborative individuals who thrive on critical thinking and finding solutions to complex problems, to join our high performing budget-focused teams in both the Strategic Policy and Evaluation (SPE) and Office of the Deputy Under Treasurer (ODUT) Business Units. Positions are currently available in following teams:
- SPE - Performance and Evaluation Group 1 – Health and Mental Health
- SPE - Performance and Evaluation Group 2 – Social Services
- ODUT - Budget Coordination and Transport – Transport
The opportunity
We are establishing a pool of suitable candidates across levels 5 and 6, with multiple vacancies available for immediate filling. This pool will be 12 months in duration, with both permanent and fixed-term opportunities. Part-time arrangements may also be considered for suitable candidates.
DTF’s Analyst roles work within a team, led by an Assistant Director, to monitor a Government agency’s budget and longer-term performance and to assess and provide advice to Executive Government on investment proposals, delivery of major capital projects and budget allocations relevant to the agency.
The core function of these roles is to provide financial analysis and policy advice (at varying degrees, aligned to the classification of the role), on business cases; budget submissions; policy proposals; and the performance of relevant agencies, with a particular lens on ensuring value for money outcomes. These positions also provide advice to partner agencies and the Government as part of the State Budget and other whole of government reporting processes.
These roles require critical thinking, a capacity to quickly gain awareness of the broader strategic and political context, strong numerical skills, working closely with stakeholders, and the ability to develop and deliver messages in a clear, concise and compelling manner.
The attached Role Statement matrix provides a full outline of the roles, key duties and essential and desirable requirements which will assist you with the preparation of your application.
