We are seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistant - Special Needs for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Malibu School is an education support Kindergarten to year 12 school located in Safety Bay as a part of the South Metropolitan Education Region for students with intellectual and/or physical disability.

The Role

Suitable applicants should be willing to work with all year levels, able to collaborate with colleagues and support the positive management of complex health conditions, personal hygiene and acts of daily living.

Knowledge and understanding of facilitating learning for students with autism, intellectual and/or physical disabilities is highly desirable in this role. Working experience with a range of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems, visual supports, Trauma Informed Practices and Positive Behaviour Support approaches, Team Teach strategies and effective support for students’ sensory regulation, challenging behaviour and toileting support are highly desirable, as is knowledge of Award Scheme Development Accreditation Network (ASDAN) programs.

Suitable applicants will ideally be required to regularly collaborate in the review of individual, class or whole-school programs and practices to inform improvement planning. Evidence of reflective practice, including the processes of seeking and applying feedback to improve practice and outcomes for students, is highly valued.

Suitable applicants should possess effective interpersonal skills to develop a strong rapport with students, staff, families and therapists and will advocate as part of an effective team to promote success for all students. Under limited supervision, the suitable applicants will be responsible for assisting in the planning and delivery of personalised education programs, both at school and during offsite activities, with a particular focus on supporting student access, engagement, independence and achievement of clearly defined outcomes that are determined by the teacher. In consultation with teachers, parents/caregivers and School Psychologist or relevant professionals, this will include contributing to the design, implementation and review of Individual Education, Behaviour, Acts of Daily Living, Transition, Travel and other documented plans. Suitable applicants will also be involved in maintaining records of student achievement and the development, implementation, and review of behaviour management plans.
