The Location and Community
The City of Greater Geraldton (CGG) is one of 9 regions of WA and has much to offer in terms of sport, culture and tourism. With a population of approximately 40,000, the CGG covers an area of approximately 472,000 square kilometres and includes the towns of Mullewa and Walkaway. Apart from the significant sporting and cultural activities on offer, Geraldton itself is renowned for its quality lifestyle. Geraldton is the centre of the WA rock lobster industry along with the productive agricultural region that extends to the north, south and east of the city. The Role
The successful applicant will ideally be committed to promoting and fostering student engagement and academic achievement in a supportive environment where success is celebrated. The school has a Selective Academic Program in Science, Technology, and Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), which draws students from across the Geraldton region.
The successful applicant for this position should be student and relationship focused, innovative and motivated, with the ability to work collaboratively in team environments. Ideally should possess the professional knowledge, understandings and experience to develop and implement an engaging and relevant secondary school Science curriculum, with particular reference to physical sciences. Ideally, as an expert practitioner you should possess a commitment to excellence in teaching and engage in regular self-reflection.
Teachers at Champion Bay SHS are encouraged to provide integrated, personalised and authentic learning experiences for students. You will ideally have knowledge of High Impact Teaching Strategies (Teachwell or similar), formative assessment, Classroom Management Strategies (CMS) approaches in building positive relationships and engaging families in their child’s learning. Teachers and school administrators employed at Champion Bay SHS in 2026 are eligible to receive a temporary Attraction and Retention Incentive of $2 000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.
The temporary ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.

Mobility appointments for permanent metropolitan and south west teachers
Eligible permanent teachers who hold a substantive teaching position in a North or South Education Region school, or a South West Education Region school* may elect to undertake this role as a 3-year mobility appointment, with a right of return to their substantive position. At the cessation of the 3-year mobility appointment, teachers can elect to return to their substantive role, or transfer permanently into this school.
