We are seeking to establish a pool of Library Officers for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Poynter Primary School (PS) is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Library Officer to join our team.

We are located in the suburb of Duncraig, opened in 1980, are 15 kilometres from the CBD, and close to the beach. We have beautifully well maintained grounds with many gardens, paved courtyards and landscaped playing fields for our sporting teams and play areas. Poynter has a proud academic tradition of providing quality educational learning opportunities across all learning areas. Enrolments are stable at 420 students and national testing results support the school's reputation for strong academic achievement. Extension programs include access to the regional Primary Extension and Academic Challenge (PEAC) program and a school based Poynter Higher Order Thinking Skills Program.

Poynter’s library has been closed for 6 months for a superb refurbishment and upgrade. It is due to reopen in Term 3 and promises to be bright and welcoming, with new technology and modern flexible furniture. There will be collaborative spaces, quiet bean bag zones and newly designed library shelving. The dedicated P&C are committed to a book drive to support the school to have an increased volume of new fiction and non-fiction books for all ages.

The Role

As a Library Officer, suitable applicants will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the library, provision of reference information and maintaining the environment and associated services of the school library to support the learning outcomes of students. A love of books and a sound understanding of library systems, processes and stocktakes is highly desirable. Suitable applicants would be responsible for stocktaking and monitoring of the library budget and contributing to making recommendations for new library resources. Poynter uses the software system Accessit. Knowledge of this is desirable, but not essential. A desire and willingness to learn is highly desirable.

The Library Officer administers the library systems ensuring library records are up to date and library resources are maintained and processed so they are always accessible and available to students and staff.

Suitable applicants should have strong customer service skills and be able to work both independently and collaboratively with staff, students and the parent community, including the coordination of the annual Book Fair during Book Week.
