This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 3, 2026

Esperance Senior High School (SHS) offers students a unique opportunity to engage in agricultural education through the Esperance Farm Training Centre, an off-site facility that combines academic learning with practical, industry-based experiences.

The Esperance Farm Training Centre is a working broadacre and livestock school farm located approximately 35 km from the main Esperance SHS campus. The centre provides a unique, agriculture-focused learning environment for students in Years 10 to 12.

Students engage in core Mathematics, English, Science and Humanities (MESH) subjects delivered through an agricultural context, supporting both academic and practical skills development. Year 10 students participate in a Rural Skills program, while Years 11 and 12 work towards a Certificate II in Agriculture, with a strong emphasis on hands-on, real-world learning.

All students also take part in a range of industry-relevant programs, including Driver Training, Metals Workshop, Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) Cadets, and Workplace Learning in the agricultural sector.

The Role

Esperance SHS is seeking a passionate and adaptable Secondary Generalist Teacher to join the Esperance Farm Training Centre, supporting students in Years 10 to 12 in a dynamic, hands-on agricultural learning environment.

This unique role offers the opportunity to engage students through practical and applied learning experiences within an agricultural context across a range of MESH programs, including Design and Technology, Metals Workshop, Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) Cadets, and Certificate II in Agriculture. The successful applicant will be committed to fostering student engagement, building real-world skills, and supporting pathways into further education, training, and employment.

Ideally, we are looking for a teacher who is enthusiastic, flexible, and ready to contribute to a collaborative team, with an interest in agriculture. The successful applicant will ideally have strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues. Additionally, the successful applicant should be able to work in a collaborative, team-focused environment and actively contribute to a positive culture of success through a growth mindset and by utilising the ethos of Impact for Teaching through the Instructional Framework.

The successful applicant will ideally:

  • Have an interest in Design and Technology – Metals (with a willingness to complete the LEAP program if required).
  • Be willing to participate in the DFES Cadets program.
  • Hold a Medium Rigid (MR) or Heavy Rigid (HR) licence or be willing to obtain one.
  • Have a generalist teaching background.

Mobility appointments for permanent, metropolitan and south west teachers

Eligible permanent teachers who hold a substantive teaching position in a North or South Education Region school, or a South West Education Region school* may elect to undertake this role as a 3-year mobility appointment, with a right of return to their substantive position. At the cessation of the 3-year mobility appointment, teachers can elect to return to their substantive role, or transfer permanently into this school.
