The Role
Geraldton SHS is seeking a Program Coordinator – Learning Support and Intervention who supports staff to plan, deliver, monitor, assess and evaluate differentiated teaching and learning programs that meet the educational needs of those students requiring intervention due to learning difficulty, disability or low literacy and numeracy progress. They consult, support, and collaborate with staff, parents and outside agencies to build the capacity of staff and enable the school to become more inclusive of students with diverse learning needs.
We are seeking a dynamic individual with the passion and commitment to the development of differentiated learning across all Learning Areas. The successful applicant will ideally have effective leadership, organisational and interpersonal skills. In addition, applicants should have high quality presentation skills and a proven track record of delivery of effective professional learning for teachers.
The successful applicant should be able to display the knowledge of and a background in exceptional, contemporary, evidence-based standards of teaching that supports secondary aged students with learning needs. The successful applicant will lead a team of educators, to communicate effectively and to support the school to develop a school wide culture that embodies inclusive practice.
The successful applicant will line manage the Education Assistant team as well as provide additional learning support across the school. Students with diagnosed and imputed disability and/or learning difficulties are provided targeted evidence-based programs aimed at increasing age-appropriate academic engagement, organisational skills, social thinking, peer relationships and self-regulation within a “homeroom” style model within the mainstream high school setting. Whilst accessing mainstream classes, students will have a clear timetabled program delivered by a skilled teacher with the aim to assist the student to improve their achievement in mainstream education and transition well to their senior secondary years and post-secondary pathways.
The model of practice includes engagement and collaboration with families, other agencies, mainstream teachers, consulting teachers and school psychologists, as well as being an essential part of our school’s Leadership Team.
The successful applicant will ideally;
- Support staff to plan, deliver, monitor, assess and evaluate differentiated teaching and learning programs that meet the educational needs of students who require intervention within a mainstream setting.
- Ensure capacity of teaching staff allows effective differentiation to support all students and their engagement.
- Ensure Education Assistants maintain their capacity to support teachers appropriately based on student and classroom need using contemporary approaches and ongoing learning.
- Ensure good resourcing is developed for support of students and monitored.
- Lead the effective transition of new students together with Student Services.
- Continue to develop an inclusive approach to students with additional needs, whilst maintaining support, care and progress within an inclusive learning hub through effective case management and data collection/monitoring by teachers.
- Achieve higher levels of literacy and numeracy progress through a plan for literacy and numeracy intervention of students in National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) and Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA). The school currently has a successful MacqLit program, and the successful applicant will grow and maintain this in consultation with the literacy specialist staff.

Teachers and school administrators employed at Geraldton Senior High School in 2026 are eligible to receive a temporary Attraction and Retention Incentive of $2 000 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.
The temporary ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.
