We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Merriwa Education Support Centre caters for primary aged students with an intellectual and/or physical disability. We are co-located on the grounds of Merriwa Primary School. We are a warm, friendly, welcoming school where teaching independence and building capacity for learning, and the needs of the individual student are placed at the centre of every decision.

We provide highly individualised programs for students with identified disabilities. These programs are prepared by highly experienced specialist teachers following consultation with parents, psychologist, speech, physiological and occupational therapists.

The Role

Suitable applicants in this role, under limited supervision, will ideally perform tasks that require discretion and judgement in achieving clearly defined outcomes determined by the teacher. They will assist students with training in the acquisition of self-management skills and foundational literacy and numeracy skills and provide information to parents on all relevant school procedures and policies. Suitable applicants will ideally maintain records regarding student achievement and the implementation of behaviour management plans.

Suitable applicants should ideally have the capacity to assist teachers in the provision of high-quality individualised student learning programs. Suitable applicants that have experience in working with students with special needs in the Education Support Centre context, as well as experience in working with children with Autism, Intellectual Disability, Physical Disability and challenging behavioural issues, are encouraged to apply. We are seeking applicants who will ideally be positive team members and enjoy working in a collaborative environment.     • Demonstrated effective organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs and subsequent feedback and evaluation to teachers or psychologists.
    • Demonstrated ability to assist with the general health and well being of students.
