
We are seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistants - Special Needs for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
Manning Primary School is a Kindergarten to Year 6 school located in the City of South Perth and proudly serves a diverse and inclusive community. The Role
As a Special Needs Education Assistant, you will work under teacher direction to support the delivery of planned education programs and contribute to a supportive, inclusive learning environment. The role involves supporting the development of students’ academic, social, emotional and physical skills by working with individuals and small groups, assisting the use of digital technologies, and helping implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
To promote student engagement, education assistants model appropriate behaviours, learning strategies and social interactions that build independence and participation in the classroom. They provide feedback on education and therapy programs, contribute to monitoring student progress, and support student wellbeing, inclusion and independence across the school environment.
Education assistants collaborate closely with teachers and other staff to support positive learning outcomes for students. We are ideally seeking applicants with strong interpersonal and communication skills, the ability to work effectively as part of a team, and experience supporting students with a range of disabilities and learning needs. A shared commitment to fostering student growth within an inclusive classroom is important.

- Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programs, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
- Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
- Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
