The Role

We are seeking to appoint a Career Practitioner, a specialist teacher who will support the career development of students.  This is an exciting opportunity for teachers with an interest in student career pathways.  Our Career Practitioner will work with the school leadership team to embed career development and career related exposure activities into curricular and co-curricular programs.

Career Practitioners will ideally be innovators and have the ability to work collaboratively across a school. Confidence to make decisions and enact necessary curriculum reform will be desirable attributes for the role. Teachers in this specialist role will ideally also need to be competent in the interpretation and analysis of system and school-based data.

To be competitive for this role, a high level of knowledge about the diversity of career pathways, with an understanding of school contexts in relation to local employers, community agencies and training providers is desirable. Career Practitioners are also expected to have strong communication skills and be able to liaise with and share information easily with students, staff, parents, training providers, employers and industry.

If you don’t hold a recognised Graduate Certificate in Career Development, you are encouraged to complete a qualification - which will be funded by the Department.  Time will be made available for the successful applicant to complete the qualification, and study will be incorporated into the role in the first 12 months.  If you already hold an equivalent qualification, recognition of prior learning may be possible.
