This is a 10 month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 2, 2026 with possible extension and/or permanency

Gnowangerup is a small town with a diverse population just an hour and a half’s drive north of Albany in WA’s Great Southern region. That drive is through the magnificent Stirling Ranges – the state’s premier hiking destination. Prosperous surrounding farms drive the local economy along with thriving light industrial businesses. Social life is often centred around sports – in which we are very competitive, but there is also a thriving arts scene in the region.

Over recent years, Gnowangerup District High School (DHS) has been on a purposeful journey of improvement centred around our updated school vision and current business plan that drives all school decisions. We currently support the education of 140 students from Kindergarten to Year 10 and are committed to distributed leaders and take the wellbeing of our staff and students seriously.

We are looking for teachers who are motivated and enthusiastic educators, who are eager to make a meaningful contribution to our whole school improvement journey, with opportunities for middle leadership development. Our ideal Teachers embrace the agreed whole school strategies and have opportunities to collaboratively impact the school improvement journey in a supportive environment. With a heavy focus on Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and Social and Emotional development and support, we work closely to support the needs of our diverse community.

The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and flexible teacher to deliver high‑quality Physical Education across the school (Year 1-10), along with providing DOTT (Duties Other Than Teaching) provision in our Primary classes and selected Secondary classes, with the subject area being flexible to the successful applicant’s strengths.

The successful applicant will:

  • Teach Physical Education to students across multiple year levels (Year 1 to 10).
  • Deliver DOTT curriculum in Primary classes, with some flexibility to teach an additional subject area depending on the successful applicant’s strengths and qualifications.
  • Contribute to the planning, organisation, and coordination of school carnivals and sporting events

This role would suit a teacher who is highly organised, energetic, and passionate about promoting healthy, active lifestyles while working as part of a supportive school community.

As a valued member of our team, we envision you as a conscientious, flexible, and innovative educator deeply committed to the holistic development of every student. Actively engaging in both the school and wider community, you will ideally reflect thoughtfully on your teaching practices and display a commitment to evidence-based decision-making and differentiation aligned with whole school programs and directives.

The successful applicant will ideally deliver a curriculum tailored to the diverse needs of all students, while fostering an environment where every student is empowered to reach their full potential using high impact teaching strategies to engage students. Dedication to developing positive relationships, and high-quality teaching and learning are highly valued attributes and will set the standard for our learning community.

We place high value on your strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, anticipating your active contribution to shaping and promoting the school's values, ethos, and priorities throughout the entire school community. Building positive relationships with students and fostering a passion for creating positive futures aligns seamlessly with our shared values and culture.
