Yandeyarra Remote Community School (RCS) is situated in a town site founded around the original homestead of Yandeyarra Station established in 1896. Yandeyarra is on a large Aboriginal Reserve (229 512 Hectares) and was gazetted in 1972. Most community members are descendants of the Aboriginal people who settled in the location during the Pastoral Workers Strike of 1946 through to 1949.
The possibilities for exploring the beautiful Pilbara Region are endless with trips to Karijini National Park, Millstream/Chichester National Park and the Pilbara coast within easy reach from Yandeyarra.
The school is very well resourced and is located in a small, supportive community within close proximity to Port Hedland which has a large assortment of shops and services.
We currently have regular attendance of between 10 to 18 students each day across two classrooms. Our aim is for our students to be at, or exceed, the levels achieved by students in like schools. We work hard and have fun.

The Role
Yandeyarra RCS is seeking a passionate, resilient and community-minded educator to join our team as a Duties Other Than Teaching (DOTT) Teacher. This is more than a teaching role — it is an opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of our Aboriginal students and to improve literacy and numeracy outcomes in a remote context where attendance can be low and every day at school truly matters.
As the DOTT teacher, you will play a diverse and flexible role in supporting both students and staff. You will deliver engaging STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) lessons or negotiated subjects aligned with school priorities and student interests, ensuring learning is hands-on, relevant and culturally responsive. A core component of the role is providing targeted Tier 2 and Tier 3 intervention in literacy and numeracy, working closely with individual students and small groups to strengthen foundational skills and accelerate progress.
You will participate in our whole-school daily reading session, reading with children every day to build confidence, fluency and a genuine love of learning. Improving literacy outcomes is a key priority for our school, and we are looking for an educator who is explicit, data-informed and committed to ensuring every student achieves to the best of their ability.
Collaboration is essential. You will work closely with our two classroom teachers, contributing to planning discussions, sharing strategies and ensuring consistent approaches across the school. In a remote setting, the role extends well beyond the classroom — from providing internal relief and supporting swimming lessons in Terms 1 and 4, to participating in On Country excursions and home visits. Being part of this small but welcoming community means teaching, learning and living are deeply connected.
We are seeking educators who are flexible, proactive and thrive in team environments. Skills and experience in Trauma Informed Practice, Literacy, Numeracy and English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D) are highly valued.
