John Tonkin College, centrally located in the City of Mandurah, heralds a new era for public education in Mandurah and provides outstanding opportunities for secondary students. The college offers a broad choice of courses and programs for Year 7 - 12 students in the Peel region as well as the southern metropolitan corridor.
John Tonkin College is named after one of Australia's longest serving politicians, John Tonkin. The late John Tonkin was a teacher, then education minister and then Premier of Western Australia. He valued fair play, hard work, tolerance, patience and believed in correct and proper teaching that developed good relationships with students.
The Department of Education Approved Specialist Surf Science Program is offered at John Tonkin College. This program engages students in marine environment studies and outdoors pursuits and is suited to students who have a strong academic work ethic.

The Role
As a Youth Engagement and Support Worker, you should be committed to working and assisting young people. Your key responsibilities include but are not limited to supporting Student Engagement and Support staff in identifying and responding to the additional needs of students. You would work in partnerships with key services providers to coordinate and deliver activities that aim to support and engage students at risk, including individual and small group interventions. In-addition, you should undertake some administrative tasks such as data entry, report writing, meeting minutes and management of student case notes. Knowledge of or experience with high school procedures and processes are highly desirable.
The successful applicant will ideally have excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish effective working relationships with people from a wide range of backgrounds. The successful applicant will be an integral member of the Student Services Team and should ideally be able to work independently and collaboratively as a member of a team without direct supervision. An ability to be proactive and seek out feedback as well as being able to receive guidance from others is also highly desirable.
The successful applicant will be employed at the MET Campus principally, but may be required to work at the Tindale Campus at times.
