The Role
As a Special Needs Education Assistant, you will support students in developing confidence and a sense of well-being across diverse educational settings. Using your excellent interpersonal and communication skills, you will collaborate with teachers and colleagues to help create inclusive education programs that accommodate the individual needs of students. You will be expected to use initiative to support the delivery of planned programs, applying your understanding of differentiation and intervention strategies to assist students in accessing the curriculum. Experience in literacy support and explicit instruction is highly desirable.
In addition to these core responsibilities, you may be required to undertake general duties that support students with a range of special needs, including intellectual and physical disabilities, sensory impairments (vision and hearing), and autism spectrum disorder. A willingness to work with students with high and complex medical needs is also highly desirable. The successful applicant will assist in the preparation and maintenance of learning environments, ensuring equipment, materials, and resources are ready for use in classes, displays, and demonstrations. You will also support the safe and clean storage of these items after use. The ability to work collaboratively in a team and communicate effectively—both in writing and orally—is essential for the successful implementation of individual and small group-based programs.

- Demonstrated good written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with students with special needs, parents and teaching professionals on the provision of educational programs, and to assist teachers in understanding students where necessary.
- Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team in the evaluation of educational programs, including special education and therapy programs where these have been implemented.
- Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery and development of effective education programs to students and subsequent feedback to teaching professionals or psychologists.
- Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
- Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
