This is a permanent part-time (0.25FTE) position commencing as soon as possible.

Situated in the Upper Gascoyne of the Midwest of Western Australia 40 kms from Mount Augustus. Burringurrah Remote Community School (RCS) is 470 km East of Carnarvon, or 300 Km West of Meekatharra. The population of Burringurrah is around 150 people. The school has 4 classrooms, a well-stocked library and we run strong pastoral care including providing 3 meals to students per day.

Facilities in Burringurrah include a shop, Medical Clinic, Police Station, a Swimming Pool operating during the warmer months, and fortnightly Doctor fly in visits. Food is bought in by refrigerated truck once per fortnight. The closest business is a small store at Mount Augustus Tourist Park 40 km from Burringurrah. Teachers will live in the Burringurrah Community free GROH housing with no cost for utilities including water, electricity, and gas. Burringurrah RCS attracts additional bonuses as well as all the incentives that go with remote teaching.

The Role

As a Gardener - Handyperson, the successful applicant would provide gardening, grounds, and facility management to ensure a safe and clean school environment. The successful applicant should maintain and present the school grounds and gardens in an attractive, clean, and tidy condition, and provide a suitable growing environment for both soft and hard landscaping, including turf management. The successful applicant should ideally possess knowledge of gardening methods and procedures, including the safe use and storage of gardening equipment, materials, and chemicals. The successful applicant would ideally have experience in servicing gardening equipment and performing minor repairs and maintenance tasks, as well as other Gardener - Handyperson duties in accordance with the Department’s policies and guidelines.

A Gardener - Handyperson should ideally possess good communication and organisation skills as well as attention to detail and be able to work unsupervised as well as within a team environment.
