This is a permanent full-time position commencing ASAP

The Industrial and Employee Relations Directorate comprises the Industrial Relations and Employee Relations branches and is responsible for ensuring compliance with industrial instruments and associated legislative frameworks.

The Directorate provides strategic and operational advice and support on a wide range of industrial and employee relations matters, supports effective performance management, and assists school leaders and line managers with discrete human resource issues, including conduct and discipline, while advising the Minister, Director General and senior leaders on complex workforce matters.

The Role

The role works collaboratively within the Industrial Relations team to provide strategic advice, training, support and information to key stakeholders on a range of employee and industrial relations matters. This includes interpretation of Awards and Agreements, employment and performance management issues, and contributing to the development and delivery of training programs and resources to build capability across the Department. The role also mentors team members and supports the professional development of individuals and the broader team.

Operating with a high degree of autonomy under the broad direction of the Manager Industrial Relations, the role undertakes complex research, analysis and reporting to inform industrial relations outcomes. This includes monitoring trends in industrial relations and workplace reform, assessing potential impacts on the Department and stakeholders, and providing timely advice and recommendations to senior management and the corporate executive.

The role represents and advocates for the Department in a range of industrial relations forums and negotiations, promoting and protecting departmental interests. It also prepares Ministerial correspondence, investigations and reports on complex industrial and complaint matters, and contributes to the development, implementation and review of industrial relations policies and procedures, exercising appropriate discretion in determining and applying mid to lower-level policy.
