We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.
Katanning Primary School (PS) is located in the Great Southern Region of WA. It is part of the Wheatbelt Education Region and the Great Southern Schools Network. Our school caters for students in KindiLink, for families with children from age 3, to Year 6.
Like our wider community, our school welcomes and appreciates its rich cultural diversity: over 30% of our students are Aboriginal and over 30% speak a language other than English at home. We value all that this contributes to our development of confident, socially responsible, successful students with broad perspectives, developing cultural understandings and an increasingly knowledgeable world view.

The Role
Katanning PS is seeking flexible Special Needs Education Assistants who can work independently, collaborate effectively in a team, enjoy working with children, and display strong social awareness. Suitable applicants should ideally possess cultural awareness and be focused on delivering programs to individuals and groups, including those students with complex needs and diagnosed disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorder, Global Development Delay, mental health, trauma and other developmental disabilities/disorders.
Suitable applicants should have the capacity to support the overall health and emotional well-being of our students and help them reach their full potential through the development of their academic, physical and social skills.
Building meaningful relationships with children and their families is an important part of this role; therefore, effective communication and interpersonal skills are highly desirable. Suitable applicants would ideally work collaboratively as part of a professional team to assist in implementing education programs and display high-level organisational skills to support effective delivery, feedback, and evaluation for teachers.
In addition to this, suitable applicants should have competent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively interact with students with special needs. Sound computer skills and the ability to create student resources are also desirable. In addition, applicants should possess a deep commitment to developing positive and productive relationships, embedding a proactive, inclusive, and respectful approach. Suitable applicants should be open to ongoing learning and development.
