We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

The Role

Special Needs Education Assistants support students with disability and additional learning needs to access the curriculum and participate fully in school life. Working under the direction of teachers and school leadership, you will provide individual and small-group support to enhance student learning, wellbeing, independence, and engagement.

The role includes assisting with the implementation of Individual Education Plans, behaviour support strategies, and personalised learning adjustments. Education Assistants support students in classroom and school environments by reinforcing learning, adapting resources, assisting with routines and transitions, and promoting positive behaviour and social development.

Suitable applicants may provide personal care and health-related support where required, ensuring student dignity, safety, and wellbeing at all times. The role involves observing and recording student progress, communicating effectively with teaching staff, and contributing to collaborative planning processes with school teams and allied professionals.

Education Assistants work as part of a professional team, maintaining confidentiality, supporting inclusive education practices, and contributing positively to the school culture. The role requires flexibility, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to supporting all students to achieve success within a safe and supportive learning environment.

    4. Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
    5. Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
    6. Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
