The Role
Our school is seeking a dedicated and student‑centred educator who is committed to achieving the best outcomes for students within the unique SSEN: MMH context. We are looking for a highly skilled professional who is motivated by the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the educational journeys of children and young people with complex medical and mental health needs.
Suitable applicants will ideally bring outstanding teaching expertise, a breadth of experience across diverse learning environments, and a strong record of effective instructional leadership. They should be an exceptional communicator with the interpersonal skills, empathy, and professional integrity needed to lead with influence, respect, and compassion. This role is ideal for educators who wish to apply their knowledge across a range of levels and settings and who value working collaboratively to support holistic student outcomes.
In this position, suitable applicants would play a key role in supporting and coordinating staff to ensure the seamless delivery of educational programs across multiple Perth metropolitan campuses. They will ideally work closely with teachers to develop and implement individualised educational plans that respond to students’ medical and psychosocial needs, ensuring each student receives high‑quality, personalised learning support.
We are seeking someone with strong skills in collecting, analysing, and interpreting student data, using evidence to refine and strengthen targeted learning programs. A core focus of the role is on teaching and learning excellence, including mentoring and coaching staff to further enhance capacity and drive continuous improvement across the school.
Suitable applicants will ideally model exemplary classroom practice and leadership in a diverse and sensitive K–12 environment. They should display the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and contribute positively to the school’s culture through interpersonal acumen, clear communication, and sound judgement. Highly developed leadership skills—including negotiation, collaboration, and relationship‑building—are highly regarded.
The School of Special Educational Needs: Medical and Mental Health (SSEN: MMH)
SSEN: MMH is one of seven specialist schools within Statewide Services. SSEN: MMH provides educational support for students whose medical or mental health prevents them from successfully participating in their enrolled school programs. The SSEN:MMH administrative centre is based at Perth Children’s Hospital in Nedlands, with metropolitan programs in hospital and community health settings in the north and south metropolitan educational regions and community health settings across regional educational regions in WA. Staff are timetabled to programs across SSEN:MMH campuses including Tuart Hill, Bentley, Joondalup, Midland, Murdoch, Shenton Park and Nedlands to ensure we meet the needs of students from Kindergarten to Year 12 and to improve the educational outcomes of these students. Our model of care LETS (Liaise, Educate, Transition and Support), ensures continuity in education to support engagement in learning and transition to the student’s enrolling school or alternative educational program.
