The Role
Hampton SHS is seeking to appoint a dedicated literacy support teacher to work between our English and Learning Support programs in our lower school Literacy Focus Program. This position works in conjunction with two of our flagship programs: The Learning Support Program and our Specialised Learning Program (SLP) - Autism, both line managed by our highly experienced Program Coordinators.
The successful applicant should liaise closely with the Focus English team to support the program’s mission of strengthening literacy and numeracy foundations, improving student confidence, and accelerating progress for those requiring targeted intervention.
The focus of these programs is to engage students in meaningful and appropriate curriculum that provides a breadth of experience relevant to them as individuals. Improving the literacy and numeracy of our students is a major goal. There is an emphasis placed on pathways and transition throughout their secondary schooling journey.
Hampton SHS caters to over 200 students with a diagnosed condition, including more than 80 with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Applicants should display a good range of knowledge and experience in ASD and other conditions, mental health disorders and learning disabilities, such as ADHD.
This role may include some student case management and:
- Small group intervention teaching (up to 16 students in our literacy programs);
- Individual education plan leadership;
- Student testing/monitoring of results;
- Collaboration with Education Assistants and Student Support Workers;
- Collaboration with English, ASD-SLP and Learning/Literacy Support teachers; and
- Ongoing collaboration with the Focus Program team, contributing to shared planning, data analysis, program refinement, and alignment to program goals within the English learning area.
As part of responsibilities with the In Focus Program, the teacher may:
- Liaise regularly with the Focus Literacy Coordinator, English HOLAs and staff to ensure consistent approaches to literacy intervention;
- Contribute to evidence‑based planning and targeted instruction aligned to Focus program goals;
- Monitor progress of identified students and communicate outcomes with relevant stakeholders;
- Support the delivery of high‑impact strategies embedded within the Focus intervention cycles.
