The Role

Northam SHS is seeking an Education Support Teacher - Learning Support Coordinator to join their high-quality regional school.

The key role of the Teacher - Learning Support Coordinator is work across the school supporting our students with diagnosed and imputed disabilities. This role will involve a range of teaching and non-teaching responsibilities with an allocation of FTE dedicated to teaching students in programs designed for students at educational risk. The Teacher - Education Support – Learning Support Coordinator will also work collaboratively with leaders, teachers and allied professionals to ensure that students are supported in their learning through a tiered model of service delivery.

We are seeking applicants who are ideally hardworking and knowledgeable about a range of disabilities and the implementation of research-based strategies to support and enhance individual student progress. The successful applicant will ideally have the ability to engage with and contribute to the wider school community. They will work collaboratively with families, staff, and outside agencies to improve student outcomes and will take a lead role to:

  • Co-ordinate Documented Planning processes for students identified through the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCDD) on School Students with a Disability; and/or is receiving an Individual Disability Allocation (IDA).
  • Meet with all interested parties to create plans for identified/targeted students to ensure clear targets and strategies are included in these plans that these plans are reviewed regularly.
  • Support staff to review/revise classroom programs/activities/assessments to meet the needs of all students.
  • Support classroom teachers in the creation of differentiated resources aimed at engaging students who require support in the learning areas.
  • Plan and program small group interventions to assist Tier 2 and Tier 3 students.
  • Investigate and coordinate Professional Learning around the learning support and differentiation, relevant to the school’s current needs.
  • Coordinate and support the Education Assistant team, including timetabling.
  • Collaboratively maintain and review student disability resourcing applications and checklists.
  • Develop processes to ensure clear lines of communication between families, staff and external providers in the distribution of essential information.

The successful applicant will ideally have strong interpersonal and communication skills, a commitment to professional learning and a high-level of participation in collaborative team planning.

Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.

The temporary ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.

Mobility appointments for permanent metropolitan and south west teachers

Eligible permanent teachers who hold a substantive teaching position in a North or South Education Region school, or a South West Education Region school* may elect to undertake this role as a 3-year mobility appointment, with a right of return to their substantive position. At the cessation of the 3-year mobility appointment, teachers can elect to return to their substantive role, or transfer permanently into this school.
