We are seeking to establish a pool of Speech and Language Officer’s for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 1, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

South East Language Development Centre and Outreach Service offers a specialised program for students with an identified Developmental Language Disorder. In 2015 it became an Independent Public School. The school has cohort of students and the Outreach Service works with other mainstream schools across the state. The Language Centre is staffed by a team of educators who continue to update their skills through an ongoing series of relevant professional learning opportunities.

The Centre has on staff Speech Pathologists who work with parents and teachers in assessing, evaluating and planning appropriate programs for the students. We are an early childhood, special education setting requiring the staff to display extensive experience, expertise and knowledge in the area of Developmental Language Disorder and its impact on student learning and social emotional wellbeing.

We are located over three campuses where we share facilities with local primary schools enabling children from the Language Centre to integrate with the primary school children for play, sporting events, assemblies and other activities. Our campuses are co-located at Cloverdale (Belmay PS), Maddington (East Maddington PS) and Armadale (Kingsley PS).

The Role

Suitable applicants will develop and support the implementation of specialised language and literacy programs for students with identified speech, language and literacy difficulties or impairments. This role involves providing specialised speech and language services and support, and assessing, monitoring and reviewing students’ speech and language and literacy development. A core part of the role involves assessing, monitoring and reviewing students’ language and literacy development, and maintaining accurate records and reports. Knowledge and experience in administering and analysing specific school based and standardised oral language assessments and making the appropriate learning adjustments to developing individual education plans will be highly regarded.

Suitable applicants will work collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams to plan and implement educational programs and provide specialist advice to teachers, education assistants and families. The ideal candidate should thrive in a collaborative multidisciplinary environment while also demonstrating strong time management skills and the ability to work independently with initiative and professional autonomy.

You should communicate student progress clearly and effectively, ensuring strong partnerships between school and home. Team work is highly regarded across a multi-campus school, as is collaboration with and support of teaching staff. Staff, should have the ability to use a range of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) across the curriculum to meet the learning needs of students with speech and language difficulties.
