The Role
Thornlie SHS is seeking a suitably qualified and enthusiastic teacher for the position of Year 7 and 8 Coordinator within the Student Services Team. This leadership role is central to supporting students during their transition into secondary schooling and would be responsible for the implementation of effective pastoral care programs that promote the emotional, physical and academic wellbeing of all students in Years 7 and 8. The successful applicant should work collaboratively within the Student Services Team and be line managed by the Student Services Program Coordinator and the Deputy Principal - Welfare.
The Teacher – Year Coordinator is ideally responsible for the overall welfare, engagement, and progress of students in their year groups. The role would involve proactive management of pastoral care initiatives, student behaviour, attendance and wellbeing, as well as close collaboration with Home Room teachers, classroom teachers, support staff, parents, and external agencies where required. As a Teacher - Year Coordinator, you should organise and oversee year group assemblies, activities, events and excursions; manage reward and recognition programs; support students at educational risk (SAER) in collaboration with the SAER and positive behaviour support (PBS) teams; and use Compass to monitor, record and analyse student progress and behaviour.
In addition, you will ideally play a key role in parent liaison, case conferencing, student orientation and induction, dissemination of information and the promotion of a positive school ethos. The role would require active participation in meetings, professional learning and school duties, as well as ideally contributing to school communications such as reports and newsletter articles. This position offers an excellent opportunity for a committed educator to provide strong pastoral leadership and make a meaningful impact on the early secondary school experience of students at Thornlie SHS.
