This is a permanent full-time position commencing ASAP

The Department of Education’s Work Health, Safety and Wellbeing Directorate comprises two Branches: Safety and Staff Wellbeing and Employee Support Services. The Directorate is responsible for ensuring that legislative frameworks are complied with and that employees’ mental health and wellbeing are supported. It provides strategic and operational advice to the Minister, Director General, school leaders and line managers on a range of matters including:

  • workers’ compensation
  • injury management
  • work health and safety
  • staff wellbeing
  • employee assistance and mediation programs.

Safety and Staff Wellbeing is responsible for WHS and psychosocial safety and wellbeing functions for the whole Department.

The Role

The Manager, Safety and Staff Wellbeing provides strategic leadership, management and direction to Safety and Staff Wellbeing (SSW) to deliver the Department’s service delivery model. The role ensures the provision of high-quality strategic advice, support and services to principals, line managers and employees across work health and safety (WHS) and psychosocial safety and wellbeing (PSW).

The role leads the development and delivery of SSW strategies aligned with the Department’s strategic direction and workforce priorities. This includes building strong, collaborative relationships with school leaders, Directorates, regions and networks, and liaising with State agencies, regulators and other key stakeholders to coordinate, influence and deliver WHS and PSW initiatives.

The Manager, Safety and Staff Wellbeing also provides high-level advice on complex and sensitive matters, identifies emerging risks and trends, and influences executive decision-making through high-quality analysis and briefings. The ability to initiate, lead, coordinate and facilitate projects and initiatives that enhance SSW services and support is critical to the success of this role. #linkedin
