Context
The Department of Education's strategic directions outline the commitment for every child, from Kindergarten to Year 12, to have access to high quality education underpinned by excellence in teaching and quality leadership. This is an education that meets the needs of the learner preparing them for their next step into the workforce or further education.
The Reform and Strategic Services Division delivers major education reforms and strategic initiatives that strengthen public education. It provides leadership in system‑level governance, disability reform and change management for priority projects, while driving innovation and embedding best practice across schools.
The Disability Reform Directorate forms part of the Reform and Strategic Services Division.
The Directorate
The Disability Reform Directorate works across the Department of Education, and in partnership with other agencies and stakeholders locally and nationally to set the direction and deliver long term disability reform for public education that will strengthen access and services across the public education system.
The Directorate has been established to drive the work arising from the review of the School Education Act and the broader system-wide disability reform within Western Australia’s public education system. The work of the Directorate ensures the Department remains future‑focused and responsive to the diverse needs of students with disability and emerging priorities.
The Role
The Department is seeking a passionate leader to fill the Director Disability Reform to provide strategic leadership to drive the design and development of whole of system strategies and policies to enable the achievement of government priorities and long term sustainable change across the public education system that support schools to create inclusive learning environments.
The Director Disability Reform will:
- provide strategic, solutions-based, evidence-based and timely advice to the Minister, Director General and Corporate Executive on disability reform, policy and related funding matters
- ensure that practical strategies are implemented to support all public schools in creating inclusive learning environments for students with disability
- ensure the effective, planned, and managed implementation of strategies to deliver sustainable, system‑wide change.
- ensure effective change management strategies are applied to support the successful delivery of a system wide disability reform agenda.
