The Role

The Gardener - Handyperson is responsible for maintaining the school grounds in a safe and tidy condition, ensuring a conducive external learning environment for students and staff. This includes overseeing the upkeep of turf areas, garden beds, shrubs, trees, and various soft landscapes. Additionally, the role involves maintaining hard landscaping features like courts and paving, marking sports areas, and conducting minor repairs in alignment with departmental policies. The Gardener is also tasked with keeping gardening facilities, equipment, tools, and machinery in a clean and serviceable condition, reporting faults promptly, and adhering to safe work practices.

Collaborating with the Manager of Corporate Services, the role contributes to the development of safe work procedures and conducts risk assessments as needed. Compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) legislation and the management of hazardous substances are integral aspects of the role, including the maintenance of records in accordance with safety guidelines.

The Gardener plays an important role in ensuring the school's outdoor spaces are well-maintained and conducive to a positive learning environment.
