West Northam Primary School (PS) is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Special Needs Education Assistant to join our team, who has a keen interest in working in a dynamic school environment with a diverse student population.

The Role

As a Special Needs Education Assistant, you will, under teacher direction, assist in the educational programs of students, promoting a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Responsibilities include assisting teachers in the delivery of planned education programs to help students to reach their full potential through the development of their academic, social, emotional and physical skills, including the operation of computers and digital technologies. Within this role, you would provide feedback when required on education programs and will participate in the evaluation process relating to the achievement of goals in special education.

The successful applicant should ideally have a high level of interpersonal skills and work collaboratively with staff members to meet the needs of students, including those with disabilities and additional learning needs. As a Special Needs Edcation Assistant, you will support staff to implement individual education plans (IEPs) and will foster a safe, respectful and engaging learning environment. The ideal applicant should possess knowledge and experience of working with students with a range of disabilities and learning difficulties and have the ability to support student growth, promote independence and confidence, both academically and socially, within the classroom and playground setting.

  4. Demonstrated ability to assist teachers or therapists in implementing educational programs, including special education and, should this be a requirement of the position, occupational and/or physiotherapy programs.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of health and physical disabilities in students and adolescents.
  6. Demonstrated ability to assist with general health and well-being of students.
