We are seeking to establish a pool of Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Broome Senior High School (SHS), is a high performing school with a diverse student population, including 40% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. The school has grown to 880 enrolments and offers a wide range of subjects through to Year 12.

The Role

As an Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO), suitable applicants will provide support and effective assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, their parents/guardians, teachers, the school and the community through the knowledge, understanding and sharing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, language and culture.

AIEO’s act as a liaison between the community and the school to develop an education program that is relevant to both educational and cultural needs. AIEO's assist and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, particularly those at risk, through mentoring and pastoral care to ensure their participation and achievement in the school environment.

AIEO’s support teachers to implement the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework. The successful applicant should ideally display a strong link to Aboriginal culture and establish positive working relationships with our families and local community. An ability to work both in teams and individually to achieve successful outcomes for students and their families will be highly regarded.

  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start.

    3. Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills, including the ability to interact with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, and liaise with parents/caregivers, families, teachers and community members and assist teachers to understand Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students’ needs.
