The Role
The Deputy Principal plays a pivotal leadership role in helping to shape and enact the school’s vision: Together we aspire, together we achieve. Working closely with the Principal and leadership team, the Deputy Principal leads with integrity, clarity, and a strong commitment to evidence‑based practice. The role is central to driving school improvement, ensuring high‑quality teaching and learning, and fostering a positive, culturally responsive, and inclusive school environment.
A key component of the role is supporting the implementation of Atwell Primary School’s Business Plan priorities. This includes building educator capacity in best‑practice pedagogy, strengthening Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), embedding whole‑school wellbeing approaches, and developing strong multi‑tiered support systems for students. The Deputy Principal strategically uses data to monitor progress, inform planning, and evaluate impact across all layers of the school.
The Deputy Principal also contributes significantly to operational leadership, including timetabling, workforce planning, policy development, and the coordination of whole‑school processes and procedures. A strong focus on collaboration is essential—working with staff, students, families, and external agencies to enhance engagement, wellbeing, and achievement for every learner.
The role further involves coaching, mentoring, and supporting staff through performance development, professional learning, and implementation of evidence‑based instructional strategies. The Deputy Principal models professional excellence and contributes to a positive, respectful, and high‑performing workplace culture.
