We are seeking to establish a pool of Education Assistant – Special Needs for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 3, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Aveley Secondary College (SC) is a large mainstream secondary school with an endorsed Education Support Program catering to students in Years 7 to 12 in Perth’s Swan Valley. The College is recognised as a school of choice with high expectations and standards, a progressive approach and commitment to excellence. The school’s moral purpose is success for every student, every day. Our staff are supported through professional development and mentoring to build capacity. We provide a safe and nurturing learning environment for students, supported by a highly dedicated team of teachers and Education Assistants.

The Education support program caters for over 75 students with moderate to severe disabilities. All students have individualised programs and planning to support their needs and pathways. Within the Education Support building, there are specialised facilities, including a hydrotherapy pool, hoisting equipment, a purpose-built life skills room, sensory spaces and generously sized classrooms. Student artwork is displayed throughout the building, which is colourful and welcoming. In mainstream, students are supported in classes by a team of Education Assistants. There is a Special Education Needs classroom and adjacent quiet space for students to use for regulation, testing and quiet time.

There is a strong foundation and leadership structure to support our Education Assistants, both in mainstream and Education Support.

The Role

Suitable applicants will assist teaching staff in the delivery of planned education programs and in promoting a supportive and inclusive learning environment. As Education Assistants, you would also provide feedback when required on education and therapy programs and participate in the evaluation process relating to student progress. The ability to assist with the general health and wellbeing of students is highly desirable.

We value applicants who possess strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills which would be used to develop and promote the school’s values, ethos and priorities across the school community. Suitable applicants will ideally be compassionate and able to work collaboratively to implement documented plans.

Aveley SC has Education Assistants – Special Needs (EASN) positions in two contexts – mainstream and education support. EASN need to be able to work across both contexts as required, but are usually based in one school context.

EA-SNs working in mainstream support students with diagnosed disabilities such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Vision Impaired, Hearing Impaired, Physical disabilities, Severe Mental Disorder (SMD) and/or supporting curriculum programs for students with learning difficulties. Experience with working with students with the above disabilities and qualifications in First Aid and Team Teach would be highly desirable.

EASNs working in the Education Support Program work with students who have moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, ASD with high educational needs, and students with complex physical disabilities and sensory impairments. The Education Support Program delivers differentiated, individualised learning programs linked to each student’s Individual Education Plan, the Western Australian Curriculum, Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network (ASDAN) and Abilities Based Learning Education (ABLEWA). There is a purpose-built life skills room, work skills space and a hydrotherapy pool. Experience with Hydrotherapy, ASDAN delivery and qualifications in First Aid, Team Teach and Austswim would be highly desirable.

EASN's may be expected to assist students with all activities of daily living. Suitable applicants will ideally be able to work under limited supervision offering expertise related to their particular area. Education outcomes are determined by the teacher, with the EASN performing tasks which require skill and discretion in problem solving, decision making, and choosing methods and processes to achieve outcomes. These duties may require you to supervise students within or outside the school context without the presence of a teacher.

In joining our dedicated team of teaching and non-teaching staff, you would contribute and work as part of this team and display a commitment to working collaboratively and building positive relationships with students, parents, staff and the wider community. Suitable applicants will ideally be versatile with the ability to work well under pressure and as a team player.
