The Role
Why This Role Matters
A clean and hygienic environment is foundational for student wellbeing, health, and learning. As Cleaner in Charge, you’ll be a vital leader at the heart of this mission, supporting education and wellbeing through excellence in hygiene standards. Your work helps every student and staff member thrive in a safe, welcoming atmosphere.
As Cleaner in Charge, you would play a vital leadership role in ensuring our school environment is safe, hygienic, and welcoming. You would induct, coordinate, and supervise cleaning staff, maintain timebooks, manage absences, and arrange relief staff. You will also oversee the safe storage and handling of cleaning equipment and chemicals, ensuring compliance with safety guidelines and hygiene protocols. In addition, you will actively participate in school grounds cleaning while supporting and assisting your fellow colleagues.
This position offers the opportunity to:
- Lead by example to maintain a safe, hygienic, and welcoming school environment.
- Induct, coordinate, and supervise cleaning staff; manage timebooks, absences, and relief staff.
- Oversee secure storage and safe handling of cleaning equipment and chemicals in line with regulations.
- Actively participate in cleaning school grounds, working alongside your team.
- Uphold and model our school values during all interactions and tasks.
What We’re Looking For
We want a leader who ideally:
- Displays good interpersonal and communication skills, values teamwork, and is able to liaise effectively with the Manager Corporate Services, teaching staff, and cleaning team to coordinate and respond to cleaning needs, both verbally and through the use of IT systems.
- Leads by example with unwavering integrity, good character, and a positive attitude, modelling our values of Shine (pride and professionalism), Grow (continuous improvement), and Connect (respectful teamwork).
- Holds experience in school or commercial cleaning, with a thorough understanding of hygiene best practices such as carpet and hard-floor maintenance, toilet cleaning, window cleaning, verandas, and pressure cleaning tasks during school vacations, while strictly applying Department of Education guidelines for cross-contamination prevention procedures
- Oversees safe storage and handling of cleaning equipment and chemicals, able to interpret Material Safety Data Sheets, follow hazardous substances guidelines, and maintain staff compliance..
