Harrisdale Senior High School (SHS) is one of the largest schools in Western Australia, attracting students from diverse geographic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. With a student population of over 2300, approximately 180 teaching staff, and 70 support staff, the school offers an inclusive and comprehensive education for Years 7 to 12. The Role

As an Education Assistant - Auslan at Harrisdale SHS, you will play a vital role in ensuring Deaf and Hard of Hearing students have full access to learning across a variety of educational settings. This includes mainstream classes, specialist programs, and school-based activities. You will provide Auslan interpreting services and classroom support to create an inclusive and engaging learning environment.

Your responsibilities may include:

  • Interpreting between English and Auslan in classrooms and other school contexts, such as assemblies, excursions, workplace learning, and community events.
  • Supporting students’ understanding of curriculum content through teacher-directed tutoring, including clarifying vocabulary, homework instructions, and reinforcing key concepts.
  • Preparing for interpreting by reviewing lesson materials and collaborating with teachers.
  • Advocating for students’ accessibility needs and contributing to their social-emotional development.
  • Working closely with teachers and staff to foster a positive, inclusive school culture.

This role may also involve interpreting at special events such as school camps, theatre performances, meetings, and appointments.
