This is a permanent part-time (0.8 FTE) position commencing February 2026

Located in the heart of the Kimberley more than 2,000 km north of Perth, the coastal town of Broome is popular with visitors due to its breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural heritage.

Broome Residential College caters to students attending Broome Senior High School and St Mary’s College. The sustainable, state-of-the-art facility is on the corner of Kerr and Matsumoto streets. It was designed in collaboration with local Traditional Owners and blends in with the natural environment.

The college maintains close ties with the friendly and welcoming community through our local input networking and communications (LINC) committee. The committee includes representatives from the community. It provides advice and support to the college manager and staff.

The Role

The successful applicant will perform basic gardener duties and maintain and present the school grounds, gardens and sporting areas in a clean and tidy condition, providing a suitable growing environment for both soft and hard landscaping, including turf management. You will maintain tools and horticultural equipment in a serviceable condition and perform minor repairs and maintenance in accordance with the Department’s policies and guidelines. You will also be expected to monitor and maintain the reticulation systems and the formal and informal sports grounds.

The successful applicant will ideally possess good understanding of all aspects of gardening, interpersonal skills, along with the ability to work independently and in a team as well as receive and carry out instructions as required. You will perform tasks and duties using safe work practices and maintain accurate gardening records.

  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start.
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check
  • complete introductory School Gardener training within 3 months of commencement in metropolitan areas or as soon as practicable for regional areas
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment.
