This is a permanent, full-time position commencing January 2026
We are seeking to appoint a hardworking individual with excellent attention to detail to the position of Lease Accounting Officer.
The Business and Customer Services (BCS) Directorate plays a key role in supporting departmental objectives by delivering value for money corporate services through skilled and motivated people, operating within an environment of standardised and efficient systems and processes. Within BCS, the Finance Services Branch provides essential financial functions and stewardship, ensuring accurate, compliant and timely financial operations that support effective decision-making across the organisation.
In this role, you will develop and maintain robust leasing and payment controls to ensure full compliance with Australian Accounting Standards Board AASB16. You will provide high-quality advice to internal and external stakeholders on a range of operational, legislative and procedural leasing matters, contributing to strong governance and informed operational outcomes. Your expertise will support the Finance Services Branch in maintaining accurate and accountable leasing practices.
The Role
To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate a solid understanding of accounting concepts, practices and financial reporting requirements as they apply to leasing AASB. This includes the ability to interpret and apply relevant accounting standards, analyse lease arrangements, and ensure accurate reporting that supports compliance and informed decision-making. You should also be able to apply the Financial Management Act 2006, associated Regulations and Treasurer’s Instructions to effectively manage and monitor expenditure, ensuring that financial processes align with legislative and governance obligations.
Strong technical competency in the development and use of spreadsheets and databases is essential, particularly for analysing data, preparing reports and maintaining accurate financial records. Equally important are well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to build productive working relationships, collaborate with stakeholders, provide clear and reliable advice, and negotiate outcomes when required. These capabilities should be supported by the ability to supervise others, prioritise workloads effectively and work autonomously with limited direction.
The role also requires well developed conceptual and analytical skills, including the ability to interpret complex information, identify issues, and develop practical solutions. This involves exercising sound judgement, thinking critically about financial or operational challenges, and contributing to continuous improvement within the team or broader organisation.
