The Role
As Assistant Gardener - Handyperson suitable applicants will work under the guidance of the Senior Gardener / Handyperson as part of a team that is responsible for maintain, improving, and presenting our College grounds and gardens in an attractive, engaging, clean, safe, and tidy condition conducive to learning and playing. This includes overseeing the upkeep of turf areas, garden beds, shrubs, trees, soft landscapes, specialty areas such as our Peace Park, kitchen garden, and inclusive learning play, grow learn area.
The Assistant Gardener / Handyperson role also involves maintaining hard landscaping features like courts and paving, marking sports areas, and conducting minor repairs in alignment with departmental policies. Together with the Senior Gardener / Handyperson, the role is responsible for keeping gardening facilities, equipment, tools, and machinery in a clean and serviceable condition and reporting faults promptly and adheres to safe work practices.
This role also undertakes general maintenance including minor repairs and painting as required and assists staff with the moving of furniture.
Collaborating with the Manager of Corporate Services, our gardening team contribute to the development of safe work procedures and conducts risk assessments as needed. Compliance with Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) legislation and the management of hazardous substances are integral aspects of the role, including the maintenance of records in accordance with safety guidelines.
Our gardening team plays a crucial role in ensuring the College’s outdoor spaces are well-maintained and conducive to a positive learning environment.
Applicants with a background in gardening, landscaping, horticulture, and/or general maintenance will be highly regarded.
