We are seeking to establish a pool of Special Needs Education Assistants for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year and up to the end of Term 2, 2026. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

South Ballajura Primary School (PS) is located in Ballajura and currently has approximately 350 students from Kindergarten to Year 6. Our school is on an improvement journey, and we are committed to low variation, high impact teaching in every classroom.

Our staff are committed to ensuring that students a provided a range of experiences and opportunities which allow them to achieve success once they leave primary school. Early education and intervention are crucial in ensuring that students are well supported right from the very beginning, and we do that collaboratively with our families and community.

Our students come from diverse cultural backgrounds; with over 25 different languages spoken by our students. South Ballajura PS has a team of dedicated, skilled teachers supported by a team of professionals that assist in the class and in the front office, Library and grounds. Our team of specialist teachers in Music, Auslan, Science and Physical Education/Health all support the school’s moral purpose, we empower our students with the knowledge and skills to be socially, emotionally and academically successful withing a safe and supportive learning environment.

The Role

The school prioritises strong relationships as the foundation of future success. Suitable applicants should be able to build and maintain effective relationships with students, families, and staff. You would assist and work effectively with teachers in the delivery of planned educational programs for students, and small groups of students. We are strongly committed to ensuring the support of a Special Needs Education Assistant results in improved curriculum access, progress, and achievement for every student.

The ability to be flexible, exercise initiative and work as part of a team will be highly advantageous. Suitable applicants will ideally have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and have the ability to collaborate with teachers to create and maintain a supportive, inclusive education program to meet the specific needs of the students. Suitable applicants should also have a strong knowledge of a range of evidence-based techniques for supporting learning, behaviour and disabilities. Knowledge and experience in working with English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) students, students with behavioural needs and students with disability would be advantageous.

You will work either under general supervision or autonomously and contribute advice and expertise, collaborating with school community members to support student achievement. Ideally, we are seeking applicants who are committed to enhancing students’ learning opportunities using their understanding of differentiation, intervention, and engagement strategies to assist students in accessing the curriculum. It would be advantageous to have knowledge and experience with small group intervention.
