We are seeking to establish a pool of English as an Additional Language/Dialect teachers for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

The Role

Lynwood Senior High School (SHS) Intensive English Centre (IEC) is seeking to appoint a pool of passionate, motivated, and committed Teachers - English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EaL/D) to the IEC team, who ideally have thorough understanding of students with limited schooling and/or students with little English language knowledge.

Suitable applicants will ideally possess experience teaching EAL/D in an Intensive English Centre and or Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) context and should possess EAL/D / TESOL qualifications. Experience teaching students who have had limited schooling and/or possession of a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment will also be advantageous and viewed favourably. The role may also include teaching aspects of the Humanities Curriculum to the same students.

Lynwood SHS enrols to our Intensive English Centre (IEC), newly arrived migrant and refugee background students, Years 7-10, with diverse educational and cultural backgrounds. These young people are resilient, motivated, and engaged learners, and some may come from a trauma background. Through the study of a range of core and elective subjects, these students acquire Standard Australian English, and the skills and knowledge needed for success in the Western Australian Education system. Students exiting the IEC may remain at Lynwood SHS but generally will enrol at their local intake school.

To be successful in this role, you should have a strategic, evidence and goal-focused approach to teaching that engages, supports, and challenges students to be active learners and critical thinkers. The ability to work effectively in and across teams is important. The context of the school will require you to apply effective interpersonal and emotional intelligence skills across the school as you support your students to be successful. This includes working closely with parents and the community to attain the best educational outcomes for students.

As part of your regular practice, you should reflect on and assess the effectiveness of your teaching and promote an environment of active and positive learning and collaboration. You should use evidence-based, relevant, and engaging instructional strategies to create opportunities that engage, challenge, and empower students to achieve to the highest of their potential. Creating and promoting an inclusive and safe environment that caters for different student learning styles and needs is essential to this role. Knowledge of effective classroom management strategies and restorative practices will be considered favourably.

With an *ICSEA of 994 (Band 7), we have around 49% LBOTE and over 60 different nationalities represented at the school. An Intensive English Centre supports the development of language skills for students new to Australia.
