The Role
This Teaching position is put in place to provide a learning program to support students with diverse learning needs who are not reaching their full potential. The Discrete Program at Geraldton SHS will comprise a one teacher model approach with the students exiting to attend their specialist and Health and Physical Education classes. As well as focusing on improving the Literacy and Numeracy of students, there is an opportunity to develop the program around Project Based Learning and Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network.
Line Management:
The Engagement Teacher is line managed by the Program Coordinator Student Services (PCSS) and supported by Year 9 and 10 Deputy Principal.
The key priorities for the position:
- In Term 4 2025, in consultation with the PCSS and Deputy Principal the teacher will assist in the development of the operational and logistical planning for implementation of a sustainable program offering.
- In Term 4 2025, development of curriculum and resources that allow for flexibility and engagement of students who have experiencing barriers them experiencing success in mainstream schooling
- In Term 4 of each year, liaising with Exec, PCSS (year 9 and 10) and PCSS (year 7 and 8) to identify, plan for, and transition selected Year 8 Students to the program for the following year. This includes meeting with parents and engaging in orientation and transition programs for students.
- Developing strong relationships with students in the program and their key stakeholders to form productive partnerships leading to improved student outcomes
- Working with PCSS in determining and employing strategies to improve engagement and attendance for selected students.

Teachers and school administrators employed at Geraldton Senior High School in 2025 are eligible to receive a temporary Attraction and Retention Incentive of $2 500 (pa, gross – to be adjusted pro rata for FTE and tenure). Eligible staff will receive a percentage of this payment on commencement at the school, with the remainder paid at the end of the school year. Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.
The temporary ARI payment is in addition to other incentives that may apply in this school.

Mobility appointments for permanent metropolitan and south west teachers
Eligible permanent teachers who hold a substantive teaching position in a North or South Education Region school, or a South West Education Region school* may elect to undertake this role as a 3-year mobility appointment, with a right of return to their substantive position. At the cessation of the 3-year mobility appointment, teachers can elect to return to their substantive role, or transfer permanently into this school.
