The Role
We are seeking a committed and capable educator to join our leadership team as Deputy Principal. The successful applicant will ideally bring a genuine passion for inclusive education and a deep understanding of how to lead with clarity, integrity and purpose in a specialised setting. The successful applicant should possess strong leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively to achieve the best educational outcomes for our students and make a lasting contribution to our school community.
As a Deputy Principal, you should be able to build effective relationships with staff, students, and families; develop and lead curriculum with a focus on evidence-based practice and provide and develop strong structures of engagement and wellbeing within a student services focus. As an educational leader, you should have thorough knowledge of internal and external services and the referral processes that support students with challenging behaviours and engagement; and have the skills to work collaboratively with these agencies and together with teaching staff to implement appropriate learning programs for specific students.
Familiarity with the Berry Street Education Model is highly regarded. We are looking for someone who understands how trauma-informed practice can support engagement, regulation and wellbeing, particularly in the context of complex needs. The ability to apply these principles across the school environment and support staff to embed them in daily practice is highly valued.
The successful applicant should also exhibit experience and confidence in instructional coaching and mentoring. We are looking for a leader who builds trust, fosters professional growth and supports staff to reflect on and improve their teaching practice. A relational approach to leadership is key, alongside the ability to navigate challenge with professionalism and care.
An understanding of Positive Behaviour Support frameworks is important, including the ability to lead both individual and whole-school behaviour planning. We are seeking someone who can support the development and implementation of effective strategies that align with our school’s values and culture, and who can work closely with staff and families to ensure consistency and support for students.
Finally, the role ideally requires a sound understanding of curriculum implementation in an education support setting. Experience with evidence-based programs such as Letters and Sounds, Talk for Writing and Sounds Write will be highly regarded. We are looking for someone who understands how to adapt curriculum to meet diverse learning needs, while maintaining high expectations for every student.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and values-driven leader who is ready to take the next step in their leadership journey. If you believe you have the skills, insight and commitment to contribute to our school community, we would love to hear from you.
