The Role

Roebourne DHS is seeking a strategic and values-driven leader to join our executive team as Deputy Principal (Primary). This is an opportunity to step into a senior position that is deeply anchored in community, high-impact support for staff, and strong systems that improve learning and wellbeing for some of the most vulnerable, but also resilient young people in WA.

The Primary Deputy Principal provides day-to-day leadership and operational management across K-6. This includes curriculum delivery, staff development, student behaviour and wellbeing, and school improvement initiatives. You will ideally be a key driver in strengthening trauma-informed, culturally responsive practice across classrooms and play an active role in supporting staff to deliver calm, consistent, and effective teaching and learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide operational leadership across the primary years, aligned to school priorities and Department policy.
  • Build staff capability through coaching, feedback and performance development, ensuring quality teaching practice is consistently applied.
  • Line management of primary teachers, including timetabling, planning and reporting responsibilities for K-6.
  • Lead the development of proactive, trauma-informed systems to support students with complex behaviour and additional needs.
  • Promote equity, high expectations, and inclusive teaching for all learners, including Aboriginal students, English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D) learners, and students with disabilities.
  • Act as a confident decision-maker and trusted presence in high-pressure situations, including parent and interagency engagement.
  • Contribute to the strategic direction of the school, including planning, resource allocation, compliance, and workforce development.

We are looking for an experienced primary leader who ideally brings:

  • Strong strategic thinking, skilled at effective change management.
  • The ability to remain calm and make sound, balanced decisions under pressure.
  • A consistent, firm but compassionate approach to behaviour support, grounded in trauma-informed practice.
  • High-level interpersonal and communication skills to build strong teams, lead staff through change, and work closely with families and community.
  • Confidence with data, systems and compliance to manage performance, planning and resourcing.
  • A genuine commitment to reconciliation, equity and improving outcomes for Aboriginal students.

Staff must remain employed in the location until the end of the school year to be eligible to receive the second payment.
