The Role
Albany SESC is seeking a highly professional, operationally focused, and values-driven Deputy Principal – Education Support to join its exceptional leadership team. This key leadership position offers the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a school community committed to inclusive education and the individual success of students with disability and complex learning needs.
The Deputy Principal will work closely with the principal and leadership team to ensure the effective daily operation of the school, with a strong focus on behaviour support, student wellbeing, and maintaining high-quality support systems. The successful applicant will take a leading role in coordinating student services, managing transitions, supporting behaviour intervention planning, and embedding consistent, evidence-based practice across classrooms. A core priority of this role is ensuring the school’s well-established Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) continues to be implemented with fidelity across behavioural, and social-emotional domains.
This is a key position for a leader with expertise in behaviour support and student wellbeing. Albany SESC is currently engaged in a Real Schools Restorative Practice Partnership, integrated with the school’s Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) framework and trauma-informed approach. The Deputy Principal will ideally play a pivotal role in embedding restorative, relationship-focused practices that promote a culture of safety, respect, and accountability. Experience with Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and/or Team Teach is highly desirable, as is the ability to build staff capacity to implement these approaches confidently and consistently.
While behaviour and wellbeing are central to this role, the successful applicant will also be part of a leadership team committed to ongoing school improvement in curriculum planning and delivery. A strong understanding of education support curriculum is essential. The Deputy Principal will contribute to ensuring all students access high-quality, individualised learning programs. This includes leading differentiation of the Western Australian Curriculum, and supporting the effective use of tools such as Abilities Based Learning Education, Western Australia (ABLEWA), and Special Education Needs – Reporting to Parents (SEN RTP). Experience in embedding Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) strategies and supporting planning in curriculum areas such as English, Mathematics, and Aboriginal Education is highly desirable.
This role also involves oversight of key student support processes. The Deputy Principal will work collaboratively with teachers, education assistants, families, and external service providers to meet each student’s individual needs. To thrive in this role, the ideal applicant would demonstrate strong interpersonal acumen, emotional intelligence, and resilience. We highly value allicantas who have the ability to lead with empathy, mentor and coach staff, resolve complex issues, and foster a high-trust, team-oriented environment. Excellent communication, time management, and organisational skills are also essential to succees in this role.
