The Personnel Screening branch is an accredited agency endorsed by the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission to access the National Police Checking Service. The branch ensures the probity of all employees through police check procedures and the review of relevant information.
This branch conducts all checks in relation to Australian criminal conviction history including spent convictions, for current and prospective employees, school board/council members, tertiary students undertaking a practicum in schools, as well as contractors and volunteers across the Department of Education.
Staff in Personnel Screening liaise with other agencies, including the Western Australian Police Force and the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission in relation to obtaining criminal history information and the statement of material facts on individuals who have provided their consent for the criminal record check to be undertaken.
The Role
As the successful applicant you will provide a customer focused and efficient service to screening applicants, with face-to-face, telephone and email contact. You will maintain a working knowledge of the Department’s Criminal History Screening policy and procedures and apply that knowledge when responding to queries from schools, applicants, and other key stakeholders. You will assist applicants to complete the online screening application if required, and quality assure applications for criminal history screening to ensure online applications have been completed correctly.
In this role, you will ensure the branch’s Criminal Record Information System (CRIS) and the information provided by the Document Verification Service (DVS) are accurate and functioning correctly at all times. You will verify applicants’ identity in line with processes established in the Service Agreement between the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission and the Department. As a Screening Case Management Officer, you will assess any criminal history identified and make recommendations to the Senior Consultant, Screening and the Manager, Screening. You will liaise with applicants with identified criminal history as an integral part of the case management approach.
