This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 3, 2025

At Bunbury Senior High School (SHS), students are provided with every opportunity to reach their potential. This is evident in the quality of teaching and learning occurring in every classroom and in the exceptional standard of service provided by the Student Services Team. Bunbury SHS offers lower school students a range of explicitly taught social-emotional learning (SEL) curriculum and access to targeted programs that further develop social skills, resilience, and self-regulation at point of need. Knowledge of, and experience in, facilitating small group programs designed to build students’ resilience, social competence, emotional regulation and overall wellbeing will be highly regarded.

Bunbury SHS adopts a Multi-tiered System of Support framework for considering student needs holistically and responding effectively to the multifaceted and sometimes complex nature of students’ individual needs. Additionally, staff understand that these needs vary in relation to the different phases of learning. Staff across our school are committed to providing every student with the educational support the student needs to learn and maintain positive behaviour and engage at school in a positive, pro-social manner. Ideally, the successful applicant would be able to show their experience in working with students at varying levels of educational risk or with vulnerable young people and provide examples of how the supports and interventions they implemented resulted in improved outcomes

The Role

Bunbury SHS is seeking a motivated and relationships driven Student Support Officer (SSO) to join their dedicated Student Services Team.

The successful applicant will assist with administrative and practical processes that ensure a responsive and effective student support service. As part of a collaborative team, the successful applicant should work productively with students, staff, parents/caregivers, and external agencies to plan and implement support and intervention strategies to improve academic and non-academic outcomes for students. A knowledge of evidence-based practices that improve student attendance, behaviour, and engagement outcomes at school, along with experience working with vulnerable and/or disengaged young people, will be highly desirable.

In the SSO role, a strong focus is placed on pastoral care and social-emotional support to ensure students feel safe, supported, and connected within the school community. This involves building positive, trusting relationships with students, providing daily check-ins, and offering guidance to help them navigate the challenges of early adolescence. The role supports students in developing resilience, emotional regulation, and positive peer interactions, while also working closely with teachers, families, and staff to identify and address individual needs. The SSO plays a key part in fostering a supportive environment where students can thrive both academically and personally.

The successful applicant should also have the capacity to use available data and other information to identify students who require additional support, monitor students’ progress, and evaluate the effectiveness of planned support and intervention strategies in improving targeted outcomes.
