The Role

Westminster ESC is seeking an inspiring and dedicated Deputy Principal to join our dynamic executive leadership team. This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate, reflective, and experienced leader to drive high-impact, evidence-based educational practices that improve outcomes for students with disability.

The successful applicant should work collaboratively within a strong and collegial leadership team, leading school-wide instructional practices with a focus on inclusive education. As a Deputy Principal, you will play a pivotal role in building staff capacity through instructional coaching, mentoring, and modelling best practices in both curriculum and behaviour management.

You will be an integral part of the school’s strategic development, driving a culture of reflection, collaboration, and continuous improvement. You will guide whole-school approaches to pedagogy, assessment, and student reporting, ensuring alignment with the Department of Education’s strategic directions and improvement plans.

Leadership experience in inclusive education, particularly with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, intellectual and physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and complex behaviour would be highly desirable. As would a deep understanding of PBS and evidence-based pedagogical practices. High-level communication, interpersonal and organisational skills as well as knowledge of Department of Education policies, frameworks, and strategic directions would be seen as advantageous.

Key Responsibilities may include:

  • Providing instructional leadership across the school, including leading teaching and learning programs, assessment practices, and the analysis and use of data to inform whole school planning and classroom practice.
  • Acting as an instructional coach to mentor and support teachers in Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), classroom management, and curriculum design, with a focus on meeting diverse student needs.
  • Lead and model functional behaviour analysis across various settings, providing direct support and guidance to staff.
  • Manage and coordinating Student Services, including case management, disability resourcing, documented planning, and liaison with external agencies.
  • Fostering a collaborative school culture that values professional trust, collective efficacy, and reflective practice.
  • Promote and support high levels of student achievement and engagement, including personalised learning and life skills development.
  • Build and maintaining productive, respectful relationships with staff, students, families, and the wider school community.
  • Contribute to and support the delivery of the school’s vision and strategic directions: "We inspire all students in a supportive environment and encourage opportunities for success."
