The Department of Education’s Pilbara education region seeks a highly motivated and committed psychologist to deliver psychological services and support to schools in and around the Hedland network. The successful applicant will make up a team of five school psychologists in Hedland, and will join a dynamic and collaborative team of 22 psychologists across the Pilbara region.
School psychologists working in the Hedland network in 2025 receive a District Allowance of $9,299 per year and an Attraction and Retention Allowance of $4,887 in addition to a competitive salary and other benefits.

The Role
The successful applicant will join a motivated, supportive and collaborative team of psychologists across the Pilbara. As a school psychologist you will operate as a key member of your school community, as well as the broader network and regional school psychology teams to support the wellbeing of students and to maximise educational outcomes. You will provide specialist psychological assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based intervention, as well as providing consultation at the individual, group, whole school, and system level. Services will be provided in the areas of mental health and wellbeing, behaviour support and intervention, learning and motivation, critical incident management, and risk assessment.
The successful applicant will have strong organisational, communication and interpersonal skills, be able to be self-directed and work independently, and be able to work effectively with staff, students, parents and the wider community. You will demonstrate a commitment to your own professional growth and development and possess the ability to work together with the school administration to develop whole school initiatives to enhance the wellbeing of all members of the school community.
Working as a school psychologist in the Hedland region will provide the opportunity to work at the forefront of psychological practice for Aboriginal youth and their families’ improving outcomes for young Aboriginal people, while developing your cultural psychological knowledge and skills working alongside the Kariyarra and Nyamal people.

- Salary range of $90,977 – 100,761 (provisional registration), $105,648 – 146,769 (general registration)
- Additional financial benefits of $14,186 p.a. comprising;
- District Allowance of $9,299 p.a. (paid fortnightly - to be adjusted pro rata for your work fraction)
- School Psychologist Attraction and Retention Incentive (ARI) of $4,887 p.a. (paid fortnightly) – approved to 31 December 2026

- Demonstrated ability to apply analytical and conceptual skills to issues identification, risk assessment and analysis, intervention and evaluation.
