Broome Primary School (PS) is seeking to establish a pool of Aboriginal and Islander Education Officers (AIEO) for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2025 and 2026 school years and up to the end of Term 1, 2027. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

Broome PS was established in 1901 and is the oldest established school in the Kimberley. The school boasts a proud history and values the buildings, surroundings and the achievements of its past and present students. Broome PS is established on Yawuru land and embraces the rich Aboriginal culture, along with the historical and diverse multicultural aspects of the Broome community.

The Role

The role of the Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer is to improve the educational outcomes of Aboriginal and Islander students by ensuring they receive the educational and cultural support they need to feel welcome, respected, understood and cared for and giving them the skills to develop socially, emotionally, physically and academically.

To be suitable for this role, you will be reliable and flexible, whilst providing support and effective assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, their parents/guardians, teachers, the school and the community through the knowledge, understanding and sharing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, language and culture.

  3. Demonstrated ability to contribute to a school-level team and to provide multi-cultural direction in the development of the educational program, development of language resources, and evaluation of education and behaviour management programs.
  4. Demonstrated ability to effectively assist teachers in implementing educational and behaviour management programs.
  5. Demonstrated good organisational skills that will assist in the delivery of effective education programs to students.
  6. Demonstrated ability to assist with the general health and well-being of students.
