Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Program

EMR is a consumer-centred program that supports healthcare providers to perform their roles enabling safety and quality to be at the heart of care for every consumer.

This Program has been established to digitally transform WA Health’s clinical information management systems by delivering a Statewide EMR solution for WA Health. The EMR is identified in the WA Health Digital Strategy 2020-2030 as the digital keystone to modernising and improving healthcare across Western Australia.

The EMR Program will incorporate changes to technology, business processes and culture. It will take advantage of innovations in digital health care to improve patient safety and quality of care for the Western Australian community regardless of their location.

About the role

We are looking for experienced and motivated Senior Allied Health Information Officers to join our diverse and highly skilled team in contributing to the health of all Western Australians.

This is a recruitment pool for fixed term appointment(s) for 2 years with the possibility of extension(s).

The Senior Allied Health Information Officer, in conjunction with the Chief Allied Health Information Officer will provide leadership and expertise to the EMR Program in the planning, design, and implementation of Statewide EMR. This role will work collaboratively with the other EMR Senior Information Officer positions across WA Health to provide statewide clinical support to the EMR Program in ensuring well-governed allied health management in the relevant area of speciality and expertise in matters related to the management of allied health and how services are delivered.  

The Senior Allied Health Information Officer is responsible for the engagement of clinical staff across the organisation in the design and implementation of the statewide EMR and associated technologies.  This position will support the development of a clinical staff engagement strategy that identifies the operational and educational impact of the EMR implementation.  This role will work closely with the Chief Allied Health Information Officer to actively consult with the health service clinical staff in decision making and policy formation related to the EMR to optimise allied health in the relevant area of speciality.

This position will be based in Perth. However, the incumbent may be required to travel to remote and regional areas.

Key information for applicants

Suitable applicants will be placed in a pool from which appointments may be made until 30 June 2026. There is currently 2.5 FTE available for appointment.

To be employed in the WA public sector, you must be an Australian citizen, have permanent resident status in Australia, or have a visa that allows you to live and work in Australia for the period of your employment contract.

WA Health policies require applicants to undertake a pre-employment health assessment, criminal record screening and integrity checking as part of the appointment process. Referees may also be asked to comment on an applicant’s integrity and past demonstration of ethical behaviour.

This position will initially be established with Health Support Services as the employing authority; however, the position will report to the Department of Health (DoH) EMR Program Leadership. In the future, this position may undergo a review for re-establishment within the DoH and be re-classified against the Public Sector Award at the equivalent level.
